Questions

Plugins and MCP servers, explained

What's the difference between a plugin and an MCP server?

A Claude Code plugin bundles commands, agents, skills and hooks, and can include MCP servers too. You install it with /plugin install. An MCP server is one connection to an outside tool or data source, such as GitHub, a database or a browser. You add it with claude mcp add, and other MCP clients can use it as well.

Where does this list come from?

Plugins come from the official Claude Code plugin marketplace. MCP servers come from the official MCP Registry, filtered to servers whose GitHub repository has at least 25 stars, so abandoned and spam entries stay out. Every listing links to its source and repository.

How do I install one?

Open the listing and copy the install command. For a plugin, paste it into Claude Code. For an MCP server, run it in your terminal. Remote servers connect over HTTP; local ones start through npx or uvx.

Is this run by Anthropic?

No. aiplugins.app is an independent directory. It reads Anthropic's public plugin marketplace and the community MCP Registry, and it isn't endorsed by either.

How do I get my plugin listed?

Publish it to the official Claude Code marketplace or the MCP Registry, and it appears here at the next refresh. To be listed at the top of your category, see featured placement.
